Experience
I applied in July and over a month later the company reached out to me to schedule an HR phone screen. It went ok and the recruiter wanted to setup a call with the hiring manager (VP of Planning) the following week. She also didn't know who the hiring manager was and when she found her name didn't know how to pronounce it. That was the first red flag. I know Mondays are bad in the retail industry because of reporting and meetings recapping the prior week's performance. I suggested later in the week, but the recruiter said Monday was good. Monday comes around and the just a few minutes into the call the VP of Planning apologized but she would have to cut the meeting short because she had some deadlines to meet. Which I wasn't surprised by, and this call never should have been on Monday to begin with. However, she was impressed by my background and experience and believed I was an excellent fit for the role. She wanted to schedule another call to finish our conversation and also wanted me to speak to a couple members on her team. A week and a half goes by and finally I reach out to the recruiter for an update on the call that's supposed to get scheduled. She informed me that they had decided to move forward with other candidates. This was very surprising considering how highly the hiring manager had spoken of me and the fact that she explicitly said she wanted to continue the conversation and have me speak to other individuals. My suspicion is that my salary range was too high and they found someone else who had a lower salary requirement.
